fgraaaaaaa
Typical.
I see a job advertised in the field I am well into - technology journalism, blogging etc - located in Covent Garden (not far, cab-wise) and at an okay-ish salary to start off with, AND it is with a company I have already freelanced for.
I am qualified and bloody well experienced enough, but here's what's wrong:
- the interviews are when I am back in Rotherham for my sister's birthday/Easter
- I'd have to swan off to The Guardian for two weeks in April, and I don't know how they'd be with that.
ARGH BOLLOCKS BOLLOCKS.
I'm wondering if it's meant to be that I don't apply and get an interview etc. because there may be other possibilities for me post-Guardian, and I have done a commission and been offered even more work for a big technology consumer magazine anyway, and arghh sorry I am confused. Two frigging paths are confusing me.
I think I need to go and play Nintendogs for a bit.

I think you should apply anyway as well - with a cover letter saying you are unavailable for whenever it is you're in Rotherham (but don't say why!) and if you get an interview you can mention the Guardian thing during that in the bit where they ask if you have any questions.
Recruitment can take yonks as well - I was down to 2 people for a job in Covent Garden once and it went on for about 3 months from the initial interview, it was a reet pain.
What the other two said. If nothing else, it's good for the interview experience, and even if you don't get the job you might get some freelance work out of it.
Ask to have the interview a couple of days early to look keen, or make it up to your sister if you have to miss the birthday.
Even if you get a staff job, it's wise to do a bit of freelance here and there on the side anyway. Just check the contract to see if it's allowed first (and use a pseudonym if it isn't).
I agree with the above - go for it. Recruitment does take ages and even if it does co-incide with the Grauniad work, then you'll be getting valuable experience there that will be useful in the new job.
Good luck x
Definitely apply - you've nothing to lose.
Surely a sister would understand if this is a job you'd really love, and you could make it up to her later?
